Amazon Villa

• Discover a New Species : Guests will join our resident biologists and help them collect insects that will be genetically sequenced. Guests have the chance to discover a new tiger moth species to science! This project is part of the Wired Amazon initiative.

• Remote Cameras at the Mammal Clay-lick : Guests will help set up remote camera at a nearby mammal clay-lick, collect memory cards, and download wildlife photos from the past few days to help scientists find out which wildlife is present in the surrounding forest. This project is part of the Wired Amazon initiative.

• Kayaking an Amazonian river: After a short hike along a rainforest trail, soft-adventure guides will get guests geared-up for a unique way to experience the rainforest. Guests will quietly kayak along the edge of a river flanked by majestic rainforests. Encounters with monkeys, exotic birds, caimans, and other rainforest wildlife is common. Guests will have the chance to rest on a sandy beach, and if they feel like, may jump in for a dip in the river before heading back to the bungalow. All activities are supervised.

• Brazil Nut Trail: Brazil nut trees are such an important part of the Peruvian Amazon life and the local economy, that it’s illegal to cut these massive trees down. A guide will take guests along a trail that passes beneath several of these rainforest giants and will tell stories about this important tree and the nuts it produces. Guests will also get the chance to taste some of the tasty products made from Brazil nuts. Helmets are provided and worn during the nut harvesting season.

• Mountain biking in the rainforest: This excursion takes guests to experience the beauty and excitement of the Peruvian rainforest along ten kilometers (about 6 miles) of trails! We provide a GT mountain bike, helmet and cycling gear, water bottle, and the trip is led by the guests’ own mountain bike guide.

• Paddle Board: Paddle boarding is an easy, fun way to experience the river. We do this activity at either sunrise or sunset because these are the times of the day when animals are most active. While paddle boarding along the edge of the river, we will look for monkeys, caimans, and other rainforest wildlife. A paddle board, paddles, life jacket, and experienced guide are included in the activity.

• Canopy Tower: Many of the trees in the Peruvian Amazon grow to heights of 30 plus meters (100 feet or more). If guests rather use steps instead of pulling themselves up to the canopy, then this activity will be suitable for them. Guests will go up a staircase tower, and will enjoy either sunrise or sunset, while enjoying a stunning sight from above the canopy. They will watch at eye-level and learn to identify colorful toucans, parrots, macaws, tanagers, jacamars, trogons, as well as woodpeckers, monkeys, and other rainforest wildlife.

• An ethnobotanical tour to a local farm: After a 15-minute boat ride, guests will arrive at a small farm where a variety of plants are grown for food, for decorations, and for their medicinal properties. Guests will learn about them and will be able to taste some of the fresh, just harvested fruits.

• A trip to a parrot clay lick: In the Tambopata area, several species of parrots, parakeets, macaws, and even mammals visit clay-licks, which are unique areas with mineral-rich soils that are essential in the rainforest diet.

• Swimming in the river: If guests feel like cooling off by swimming in an Amazonian river, a personal guide will take them by boat to a nearby beach. This activity is possible during the dry season starting in late April through September.

• Night hike in the Jungle: Most of the rainforest’s wildlife comes to life after dark, guests will be led on a trail for an hour and a half, to look for unique fauna and be exposed to nocturnal animals during this exciting night hike into the Amazon rainforest. Headlamps are recommended.

• A trip to a macaw clay-lick: An early-morning trip to one of Tambopata’s famous macaw clay-licks: the Chuncho clay-lick, is three hours by boat from the bungalow and is often visited by three species of macaws, parrots, and parakeets. Guests’ personal guide will help identify the birds and animals seen at the clay-lick and along the river with binoculars and a spotting scope.

• Sunset boat ride on the Tambopata: Sunsets in the jungle are stunning and one of the best places to enjoy them is from a boat on the Tambopata River. The excursion starts in the afternoon; their private guide will lead guests to a two-hour ride on the Tambopata River. This
excursion makes it as a romantic outing, allowing guests to enjoy the sunset accompanied by a bottle of wine.
 

• Picnic dinner around a bonfire: While enjoying a delicious dinner next to the campfire and being surrounded by the rainforests of Tambopata, the guide will entertain guests with storytelling of local legends.

When guests choose the Amazon Villa for lodging, they can partake in any of the activities listed above, or relax in the bungalow to enjoy the privacy and beauty of the surroundings. Custom made programs are also possible, guests can tell us how they would prefer to spend their time, because we are more than happy to make their stay in the rainforest nothing short of incredible. Although the exclusive bungalow is completely separate from Refugio Amazonas, if guests feel like using the lodge facilities to enjoy a drink at the bar, take a meal or two there, or just to meet other travelers, they are welcome to take a 10 to 15-minute stroll.

• Ese Eja Day - Add on : The Ese Eja Day is a chance to experience a half day at the Ese Eja Community of Infierno and meet the real guardians of the Amazon Rainforest.
