Taquile Uros Island

This day we will visit the highest navigable lake in the World, The Lake Titicaca. We will be picked up from our hotel and transferred to our embarkation point, from where our boat will leave and take us to Taquile Island, stopping on the way at the Uros floating Islands. Inheritors of an ancient culture, these Lake nomads rely on the lake resources to subsist, just as their ancestors did, while living on their floating islands made out of Totora Reed, a unique way of life. From here we will head to Taquile Island, and disembark on the local deck to visit the locals known as the Taquileños. These local peasants work under a communal economy, which has allowed them to subsist for centuries. On this isolated island the legend tell that this people escaped from the main land life, which was full of hardship, and developed a society based on mutual cooperation. Upon arrival to the Island we will climb the trail and steps up to the main plaza and walk around the village. Then we will visit a lodge managed by a local family where we will have a typical lunch. This tour will introduce you to the real way of life of Andean people. On the way back to Puno, we will visit the floating Island of Uros, known as one the most traditional towns of Peru. The small community of the Uros lives on floating islands along the Lake. These islands are constructed from a plant called “Junco” or “Totora”. In addition to the majesty of the landscape you will be able to see up close how these people live on these unique islands. Afternoon return to Puno and your hotel.
